BLACKPINK member Rosé and American pop singer Bruno Mars‘s friendship has been in the limelight for a while now, especially after their collaboration for the global smash hit, “APT.” While the two artists being openly affectionate toward each other is not new, their recent reaction has given fans whiplash.

On February 27, Mars ended a decade-long drought and finally dropped his fourth solo studio album, The Romantic. The record features nine love songs he produced with D’Mile.

As a promotional strategy, the singer held a live broadcast on TikTok, discussing the new album and playing the songs for his fans. During the broadcast, he played a voice message he had received from Rosé, where she asked him to suggest a song for a girls’ night out.

Mars, endeared by Rosé’s message, responded with brief teasing and played his song, “Something Serious,” for her.

This song dedication sparked strong reactions online, given that the lyrics were entirely too romantic. From the confession, “I got it bad for ya…You should be my boo thang/I should be your mans” to the bold proposition, “Don’t you want some pretty brown little babies? I could give you that,”the song left many fans baffled and wondering about the implications.

Though some people found it problematic, others felt that it was just a part of Bruno and Rosé’s usual playful dynamic.

Regardless of the internet’s perception, this interaction proved that Bruno Mars and Rosé are indeed friends behind the scenes, contrary to what the popular discourse claimed after this year’s GRAMMYs.
